Leaders representing 20 nations will make their way to Anchorage for the Global Leadership in the Arctic: Cooperation, Innovation, Engagement, and Resilience (GLACIER) conference next week. The United States has assumed control of the eight-nation member Arctic Council. The organization focuses on needs of indigenous people in the north, as well as issues affecting dramatic climate change. It also comes at a time when tension has been ratcheted up between Russia and the other members of the council.
