Canadian broadcaster CBC apologizes for on-air remarks about Chinese swimmer

The Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) has apologized for on-air remarks about Chinese swimmer Ai Yanhan. Commentator Byron MacDonald, a 1972 Olympian and long-time swimming coach, didn’t realize his microphone was still on during Thursday’s live broadcast. His comments appeared to be directed towards Ai, 14, who finished the second leg 1.61 seconds slower than Canada’s Taylor Ruck, opening the door for the Canadian relay team’s bronze medal finish.
