Canadian hostage killed by Abu Sayyaf militants in Philippines

Philippine authorities have confirmed that militant group Abu Sayyaf executed a Canadian hostage after demands for a large ransom were not met. The hostage, Robert Hall, was abducted last September. Authorities say he was beheaded in the mountains of an island province in southern Philippines. Police have obtained a militant video showing Hall in an orange shirt and kneeling in front of a black Islamic State-style flag before he was killed. President Benigno Aquino has strongly condemned the murder.
