China allocates 1.6 billion yuan to fight poverty

The Chinese government has decided to allocate 1.6 billion yuan (240 million US dollars) to rural development projects, as part of Beijing’s efforts to fight poverty through investment in agriculture and rural infrastructure projects. China’s National Development and Reform Commission said on Monday the funds will go to the least developed areas in 21 provincial regions.
