As Beijing’s bid team awaits Friday’s outcome, China’s State Council has approved the establishment of a renewable energy zone in Zhangjiakou. The city in neighboring Hebei province is jointly bidding with Beijing to host the 2022 Winter Olympics. According to the plans, by 2020, 55 percent of the power consumption in the zone will come from renewable energy. All of the city’s public transport will also be fuelled by renewable energy.
