China-Czech film cooperation improves cultural exchange and tourism

When the spectacular architecture of Prague stood in for Paris in a recent Chinese film, it was a stroke of serendipity for the Czech Republic. A new era of film industry cooperation, as well as tourism, ensued between the two countries, thanks to “Somewhere Only We Know”, a hit Chinese film in 2015 directed by Xu Jinglei. At first, Prague was the movie’s backdrop, while Paris was the first option. But the lower tax rate in Prague attracted many Chinese filmmakers, and now the country’s tourism industry is also enjoying a boost.
