China drum beating heats up Christmas season in Bogota

The reverberation of ancient Chinese drum beating pumped up the spirits of local audience on December 17 in the center of Bogota, capital city of Colombia.

“Ancient Chinese drums were made of animal skin and bone. When the drums were played, the army was spirited up and the enemy were scared and defeated. This could be traced to 5,000 years ago.”

China’s Shanghai Jiangzhou Drum Troupe was in Bogota for an eight-day visit to help enliven the atmosphere right before Christmas.

“This is a symbol that shows the friendly relationship between China and Colombia. We bring the most wonderful group of Chinese drum performance to Bogota for our Colombian friends to enjoy.”

Around 10,000 people watched the show on December 16 and 17 on the Bolivar Plaza, as some 100 percussionists of the troupe presented their skills with 1,500 drums of various types.
