SOUNDBITE(ENGLISH) JOHN CRIDLAND, Director General, Confederation of British Industry
We in Britain follow the developments in the Chinese economy with great interest, and the economy is big, and it is important to the world as China’s will always have good days and less good days, and the markets reflect this. But I am confident about Chinese economic growth. It maybe a little bit slower, but we in the west have been used to it. But I think it has more to do with a gradual maturing of the modern economy in China, settling into the sort of growth rate so you would have expected having gone through a period of phenomenally successful growth. Clearly there are risks in the Chinese market, in the financial services. There are risks with property, but I believe the Chinese government would be able to manage these risks successfully. So the stock market goes up, the stock market goes down, but in reality I think China is an excellent market for investment.
