The world’s first quantum communication satellite that China plans to launch this month has been given the nickname “Micius,” after a fifth century B.C. Chinese scientist. The satellite’s official name is the “Quantum Experiments at Space Scale,” or QUESS. It will conduct experiments on high-speed quantum key distribution between the satellite and ground stations. It will also explore quantum teleportation for the first time in the world.
