China publishes its first nuclear emergency guidelines on Wednesday outlining the actions to be taken in an event of a nuclear accident. The 12,000 Chinese character-long instructions, named “China’s Nuclear Emergency Preparedness”, have introduced the principles, measures, research and cooperation in relation to nuclear emergency management. They specify that the control of nuclear power is under the central government’s “unified leadership” while local governments and military departments take “different levels of responsibilities”.
