China visibly absent from the Cannes Film Festival

A total of 17 Chinese movies have made the cut for the Cannes Film Festival since 1975. This year, China finds itself absent in all major categories. Critics say there is much to improve in the world’s second largest movie market. Teng Jimeng of the Beijing Foreign Studies University, James Mudge of the Chinese Visual Festival, and Elizabeth Dell of the Producer’s Guild of America discuss what China can do to make a global cinematic mark.
