China’s AI Guru: Cruel To Replace Love With Robot Care For Old Folks | CNA Insider

China’s artificial intelligence (AI) guru Dr Lee Kai-Fu has over 50 million followers on Chinese social media site Weibo, was the former head of Google China and the CEO of Sinovation Ventures that recently raised a a new fund of US$500 million to invest in AI startups out of the region.

But he draws the line at using AI to care for the elderly. “Elderly people really want to connect with other people and I think giving them primitive, fake, inanimate and non-emotional robots to interact with is a cruel thing that we should not do as human beings.”

He also says that the kind of jobs that wont be replaced by tech in future are those that are creative, thoughtful, strategic and compassionate.
