China’s breakthrough in micro-liquid transport

The futuristic concept of a “lab-on-a-chip” may soon become a reality, after a research team at China’s Fudan University took a major step towards realizing the technology. Scientists have used a special hair-thin tube and light to transport microscopic amounts of liquid, mimicking a chemical reaction process. Micro-liquid transportation can be used in many fields, including integrated electronics and medicine. Research into the subject started at Fudan University in 2003, and scientists have finally discovered a flexible and resilient material, managing to use it to make their state of the art micro tube.
