China’s first offshore nuclear power plant is fully operational

China’s Ningde nuclear power plant in the southeastern Fujian Province became fully operational on Tuesday. The new plant is built on three islands 143 kilometers north of Fujian’s provincial capital, Fuzhou. It took eight years to complete construction. The plant will cover around 16 percent of Fujian’s annual energy needs, while at the same time cutting the province’s greenhouse gas emissions.
