China’s only coastal Satellite launch center prepares for its maiden mission

Wenchang Satellite Launch Center on the northeast coast of Hainan Province will carry out its maiden launch mission in the next few days. Located about 60 km from the provincial capital Haikou, the center is China’s only coastal launch site. Its proximity to nearby ocean ports in Wenchang facilitates the center in receiving rocket deliveries. The location, about 19 degrees north of the equator, is suitable for launching geosynchronous satellites, heavyweight satellites, large space station components, as well as for carrying out lunar and interplanetary missions.
