China’s organ transplantation reform lauded at International Congress of The Transplantation Society

China’s progress in organ transplantation reform is one of the focuses of the 26th International Congress of The Transplantation Society (TTS), currently underway in Hong Kong. Voluntary donation after death is now the only source of transplanted organs since China banned the harvesting of organs from executed prisoners in January 2015. TTS President Philip O’Connell said he is impressed with the changes done so far, and will continue to support China in its reform. At present, China ranks first in Asia in terms of annual average number of organ donation, and third around the world.
