Chinese embassy expresses concerns over Spanish cop raid on ICBC bank

Spain’s Civil Guard police on Wednesday searched the Madrid branch of China’s biggest lender ICBC and arrested five of its directors as part of a probe into the suspected laundering of at least about 44.5 million U.S. dollars.

The Chinese Embassy in Spain on Wednesday issued a statement, expressing its concern over the reported raid.

The statement said the Chinese Government “always demands that the offices of accredited Chinese companies working abroad strictly abide by the laws, both of China and the country they were working in.”

The embassy also said “these offices in Spain have acted according to these demands,” and adds that so far it has not received any information about the operation “from any official department in Spain.”
