Liu Yulin is part of a new generation of Chinese filmmakers looking to bring a much-needed dose of creativity to an increasingly commercialized market. After winning the Narrative Silver Medal at the 2014 Student Academy Awards, Liu is currently working on her first feature film, “One Sentence is Worth Ten Thousand,” an adaptation of a book by her father, Liu Zhenyun. In this exclusive interview, she shares her insights into the challenges facing Chinese cinema, and tells us what she believes are the most important elements in telling a compelling and original story.
