Chinese firefighting robots join Palace Museum’s largest ever fire drill

The Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, held its largest fire drill for the 91st anniversary of its founding on Monday. The exercise took place at the Hall of Supreme Harmony, and involved 500 participants. Specialized firefighting robots made their debut during the drill. They have been designed by Chinese experts to reach areas with explosives and toxic materials that firefighters cannot get to. Nearly 100 fires broke out in the Forbidden City during the past 600 years. The Hall of Supreme Harmony had suffered a severe lighting strike in 1421, and was completely rebuilt in 1440 after it went up in flames.
