Chinese firm to build Great Mosque of Algiers

China is stepping up efforts to build the construction of the Great Mosque of Algiers in Algeria.

In 2012, China State Construction Engineering Co. Ltd. won the contract to build the 1.5 billion-U.S.-dollar mosque in the capital city of Algiers in Algeria.

The complex will house 12 constructions, including a prayer hall, a library, and a museum of Islamic art and history.

It will also have the highest minarets in the world at 265 meters.

The mosque will take a space of about 400,000 square meters, which will make it the third biggest mosque in the world.
