Chinese zoos help animals beat summer heat

Zoo animals have been relaxing in pools, enjoying cold showers and eating fruit as they keep cool this summer in the hot northern and northeastern parts of China.
Golden monkeys at Dalian Forest Zoo in northeast China’s Liaoning Province have been eating watermelon and relaxing under sunshades. Staff at the zoo also provide the animals with mung bean soup and ice pops to relieve the heat.
Zoo keepers have been using hoses to spray Thai elephants with water before and after their daily performances.
Summer is the hardest season for polar bears. However, by filling a swimming pool with cold water and adding frozen blocks of fruit juice, staff at the zoo are helping them cope.
