Christian Kern sworn in as Austria’s new chancellor

Christian Kern has been sworn in as Austria’s new chancellor just over a week after his predecessor Werner Faymann resigned, amid falling support and dissent in the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). The ceremony was conducted by President Fischer in Vienna. 50-year-old Kern is the former CEO of the Austrian Federal Railway. He also takes over from Faymann as leader of the SPÖ.
