James Holmes, a gunman who killed a dozen people at a theater in Colorado, US, in 2012, has been sentenced to life in prison. The jury was unable to come to a unanimous decision on giving Holmes the death penalty, which means that Holmes will automatically receive life in jail without the possibility of parole. Holmes was convicted last month of 24 counts of first-degree murder, two for each of the slain victims. He was also convicted of attempted murder for wounding 70 more people.
