Confucius Classroom inaugurated at Chilean primary school

Singing of Chinese folk songs heated up the inauguration of the Confucius Classroom at the Colegio Yangtse School in the La Reina Commune of Santiago on July 29.
Chinese Ambassador Li Baorong and La Reina Mayor Raul Donckaster cut the ribbon for the program dedicated to teaching of Chinese language and culture.

The Confucius Classroom accommodates children from nursery-age to the eighth grade, with Chinese lingual and cultural workshops and participation of the local Chinese community on its curriculum.
Thanks to the support of the La Reina Commune, Chinese classes started in 2008 at Colegio Yangtse, which has become the only school in Chile offering Mandarin classes at basic primary level ever since.

The Chinese Embassy has sponsored the school since 1987, trying to build it as a bridge of friendship between both countries.
