Congress protests against Smriti Irani at Jantar Mantar

Congress today staged huge protests at Jantar Mantar against HRD minister Smriti Irani after a Delhi court took cognizance of a complaint filed against her for allegedly misrepresenting facts about educational qualifications in her election affidavits. The protestors, led by Congress leader Ajay Maken, raised slogans against Irani, and demanded that the minister should resign on moral grounds. According to the complaint filed by Ahmer Khan, a freelance writer, in Irani’s three affidavits before the EC while filing nominations for her candidature for Lok Sabha as well as Rajya Sabha polls, Irani had purportedly given different details about her educational qualifications. It is also alleged that in her affidavit for April 2004 Lok Sabha polls Irani had said that she completed her B.A. degree in 1996 from Delhi University (school of correspondence) whereas in another affidavit of July 11, 2011 for contesting Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat she said her highest qualification was B.Com first year from the School of Correspondence, Delhi University.
