Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has claimed victory in the country’s upper house election, opening the door to the first revision to the country’s US-authored constitution since it was implemented in 1947. Abe’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its allies have narrowly achieved the super majorities in the upper and lower houses needed to hold a national referendum on changes to the constitution.
