One of China’s most famous songs “Tian Mi Mi,” or Sweet as Honey, has crossed the Atlantic Ocean and is now performed by Cuba’s best acapella vocal group.

(Soundbite) Rene Banos, Founder and Director of Vocal Sampling
“We found it very interesting from the artistic and musical points of view to explore the traditional sonorities of China. At the same time Chinese poetic language is so different from ours, but in essence very interesting and beautiful.”

Vocal Sampling, Cuba’s leading acapella group, has recorded the song as part of its next album.
The band is currently performing it all over the world, particularly in festivals and concerts in Asia.

(Soundbite) Reinaldo Sanler, Singer of Vocal Sampling
“It was a great challenge. I needed advice from other people who helped us with the meaning of the words, the exact pronunciation and the accents. Eventually, after much work and with pleasure, I can sing this. It is a very nice song and gives me much pleasure to sing it.”

“Tian Mi Mi” is part of a very mixed album set to come out next fall, where songs from all over the world are interpreted by the vocal group, without losing the Cuban sonority.
The vocal group was founded in 1989 in Havana, now the top acapella group on the island and recognized with numerous awards.
