Curfew remains in India’s Gujarat state after caste-based protest

A curfew remains in place for the third day in India’s western Gujarat state, after clashes between police and a powerful clan claimed seven lives. The unrest started on Tuesday night. It was led by members of an influential farming caste, demanding government benefits. Residents urged the Patel community to find a solution to the issue through dialogue with the government.
