Delhi Demolition | Difficult to Shift Blame On Someone : Sheila Dikshit

Speaking to TIMES NOW over the death of the infant in the Shakur Basti demolition, former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that it is difficult to shift the blame of somebody.

“Whoever is the Chief Minister of the local government must first realise that Delhi is not a full state holder, it is a Union Territory therefore there are many things to be done in coordination with the central government which is represented in Delhi by the Lieutenant Governor,” said Dikshit

“So if you don’t coordinate you will land yourself into like the recent happening of removal of juggis from the railway land,” added former Chief Minister.

She also said that now is the time of the year which is very cold in Delhi so therefore without giving an alternative one can’t remove the people and throw them out.

One child died on Sunday morning hours after his family, along with nearly 500 others, was evicted from their slums in a late-night demolition drive by railway authorities in New Delhi’s Shakur Basti area.

With their shanties razed to the ground, hundreds of women and children had to spend the cold night in open. The demolition coincided with winter officially arriving in the national capital.

Railway officials said they conducted the “anti-encroachment” drive to create land for a new passenger terminal. They said the child’s death, reported around 10 am on Sunday, had nothing to do with the removal of the slum.
