A commuter train struck a tree and derailed after a heavy storm in Northern California, plunging into a creek that had burst its banks and sending passengers scrambling in the dark to escape the partially submerged car. 14 people were injured, four seriously, the Alameda County Fire Department said. An initial investigation said a mudslide had most likely swept the tree onto the train tracks.
