Different choices by Japan and Germany when facing up to history

After WWII, Germany, a country with similar experience as Japan, has reflected sincerely upon the history of WWII, and gained broad understanding and respect of international community. By contrast, Shinzo Abe’s administration even refused to recognize the nature of the war as an aggression defined by the Potsdam Proclamation. Abe government’s attitude towards WWII history makes people wonder: Why Japan can not face up to history just like Germany did?
