Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, who has famously referred to Osama bin Laden as “Osamaji” and Hafiz Saeed as ”saheb”, finds himself in a soup again. A 2012 video has surfaced showing him praising controversial Mumbai Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, who is said to have inspired the Dhaka cafe bombing terrorists. The video, which was broadcast on Peace TV, shows the Congress leader sharing a stage with Naik, and saying that he is a man “who spreads peace in the world.” People like Naik, says Singh in the video, can bridge the gap between Hindus and Muslims. “Zakir should travel all over India…I am very happy that he is spreading the message of peace….We need your message to reach the country,” Singh says, addressing the televangelist in the video. Two of the seven Bangladeshi terrorists – including an Awami League leader’s son – who murdered 20 civilians and two cops in an attack on a Dhaka cafe on the night of July 1, were followers of Naik, who’s also founder of the Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation. According to a Bangladesh newspaper, militant Rohan Imtiaz, son of the Awami League leader, quoted Naik extensively in a propaganda campaign on Facebook last year.
