Bike-sharing schemes have become increasingly popular in major urban centers around the world over the past few years, reflecting the growth of the sharing economy, particularly among young people. Car manufacturer Ford is now planning to roll out further similar schemes with a number of global cities. Samuel Chuffart of Shanghai-based automotive design company Icona and Max Wolff from New York’s New School University discuss whether Ford’s move is indicative of automakers being forced to adapt to the sharing economy in order to stay relevant to consumers’ daily commutes.
