At nearly $7 billion dollars, China’s box office has seen explosive growth in 2015, skyrocketing nearly 50% over the previous year. The country is on course to becoming the world’s biggest movie market, but big questions remain over the quality of Chinese movies, which many say lag behind the best of their Hollywood counterparts. Chen Lei, from Beijing’s Galloping Horse Film Company, and University of Southern California’s Stanley Rosen discuss what lies ahead for Chinese cinema, and whether massive money can be made that can also spark a creative renaissance.
