French TV audiences have become enchanted by a village in southeastern China’s Guizhou Province, thanks to a documentary broadcast on France 2 channel. “Rendezvous in an Unknown Land” topped the ratings with 5.5 million viewers, which means one-in-ten of the population likely watched the documentary. The documentary features Clovis Cornillac, a French actor who stayed with the Miao families for two weeks. The warmth of the Miao people and their personal stories, combining with the beautiful scenery, attracted and introduced many French audiences to the Chinese culture and heritage.
