A fire engulfed a school dormitory in northern Thailand province of Chiang Rai Monday night, killing at least 17 school girls and injuring five others.
Two girls are reported missing.
The fire started when most of the children fell asleep.
And an initial investigation found that the dormitory was locked from outside when the fire broke out, which made the students hard to escape the flames.
About 38 girls, aged between 5 and 12, were staying at the two-storey dormitory of the elementary school.
Fire fighters say they spent three hours to put out the fire.
