Some of the runners at Dalian International Marathon on Sunday broke down as they made their way to the finish line. Dozens of participants at the 42.195 km race either collapsed or fainted on the streets of Dalian, northeast China’s Lioning Province. Fortunately, all of them were able to get immediate assistance from the crowd. One man was seen stumbling, yet insisted on keeping on despite appeals from a security guard to halt. A few second later, he lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital. Some amateur runners do little preparation to get in shape prior to marathons, and long stretches of physical intensity could result in respiratory or cardiac complications, which could lead to sudden death.
