A surveillance camera has caught a man’s brush with death as he dodged a truck that shot a red light and overturned in Nantong city, east China’s Jiangsu Province.
The accident took place in the city’s Tongzhou district on October 14, when the man started driving his scooter across a pedestrian crossing at an intersection. As both he and the driver of the truck swerved to avoid each other, the truck overturned. The scooter rider narrowly escaped being crushed.
According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1.25 million people die as a result of traffic accidents every year. Half of those losing their lives are “vulnerable road users”: pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
