Drunk-driving pregnant woman crashes in hotel parking lot

Footage has emerged showing a pregnant woman crashing into the iron gate of a parking lot at the Yan’an Hotel in Shanghai, before hitting a black car parked on the side of the road. Police information suggested that the woman had been driving under the influence of alcohol, and despite her holding a US driver’s license, she did not have a Chinese one, meaning she was also charged with driving without a valid license. Since the defendant was pregnant, she was given a lenient punishment.
International Driver’s Permits (IDPs) are not valid in China, but foreign license holders residing in China can convert their permits into Chinese licenses, and may be requested to sit an additional examination.
