Duterte: Manila wants a ‘soft landing’ regarding South China Sea issue

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has praised China, setting aside a maritime dispute, during his four-day state visit to Beijing. Speaking to reporters at his hotel, Duterte said that China was good, and has never invaded a piece of his country. He described the judgement by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague over territorial disputes in the South China Sea as a “piece of paper.” Earlier, Duterte said that the Philippines wanted a soft landing regarding the South China Sea issue. After meeting with reporters, Duterte met with members of the Filipino community to discuss business links with China.
