Duterte signals end to Philippine military alliance with US

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to review the 2014 Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement between his country and the United States. He made the remarks at a local festival on Sunday. Duterte said the two-year-old defense deal does not contain the signature of the previous Philippine president. The president warned he might ask all US military personnel to leave his country if the deal doesn’t meet his standards. The agreement permits US forces to build temporary facilities in Philippine bases and strengthen the country’s equipment-deficient military.
