Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in Beijing on Tuesday to start his first state visit to China, which will last until October 21. China is the first country Duterte has visited outside the ASEAN bloc since he took office in June. It comes at a time of fractious relations between the two countries, following the recent South China Sea arbitration case which was unilaterally filed by Duterte’s predecessor. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi greeted the Philippine president at the airport.
