Earliest known Chinese translation of ‘Lotus Sutra’ uncovered in Beijing

Of snake gods and sutras: a discovery of a sacred Buddhist scripture in a suburb of Beijing rocked archaeological circles in China this week. The “Lotus Sutra”, supposedly wrested from a realm of snake gods, is one of the religion’s most important and influential texts, and this find is the earliest known translation in Chinese.
