Egypt appoints ambassador to Israel, ends 3-year vacancy

Egypt appointed Hazem Khairat as its ambassador to Israel, ending a three-year vacancy in the post. The Israeli Foreign Ministry says Hazem Khairat arrived in Israel Friday and immediately adopted his duties as Egypt’s envoy. The new appointment follows improved relations between the two countries under President Sisi’s administration. Egypt had no ambassador in Israel since November 2012.
