An elderly man fought off a large and fierce Tibetan mastiff for over 30 minutes, on the morning of Feb 6 in Yantai City in east China’s Shandong Province.
A factory’s surveillance footage shows the 62-year-old man, Mr Sun being attacked by a large mastiff dog when simply walking out of his house. He struggled with the 75-kg mastiff before finally gaining the upper hand. Mr Sun then held the dog pressed to the ground for about 30 minutes, tightly holding its neck to stop it from biting him, as he waited for help. The elderly gentleman was eventually rescued after his relatives and friends came. The attack left Mr. Sun with injuries to his stomach and arms.
Authorities said the dog has lived in the surrounding area for more than 5 years, and no one came out of the factory to help due to the Spring Festival holiday.
Tens of thousands people are hurt by dogs every year in Yantai City, especially in the summer months when the number can reach more than 100 attacks each day, according to the Yantai’s Center for Disease Control.
