German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said the European Union is in a “critical situation”, amid a string of destabilizing issues such as terrorism, irregular migration, and the UK’s vote to quit the bloc. Merkel made the remarks at an EU leaders’ meeting in the Slovak capital of Bratislava, aimed at finalizing policies on the economy and defense. She urged the leaders to work together, adding that one summit alone would not resolve their problems.
