The World Nomad Games has been held in Kyrgyzstan’s Cholpon-Ata.
The competition aims to preserve traditional sports, such as wrestling, horseback riding, nomadic versions of polo, falconry and even goat-grabbing.
The games kicked off on Saturday and will run until Thursday, with competitors from 53 countries looking to take home some of the 111 medals available to winners. The games involve athletes from Turkmenistan, Russia, Turkey, Switzerland, Estonia, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Botswana, Zambia and other countries.
The first edition of the World Nomad Games, which aimed to revive the cultures of nomadic people across the region, was held in Kyrgyzstan in the month of September, 2014. The competition was initiated by President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev together with his counterparts from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkey.
