Far-right activists storm office of Ukrainian tycoon

About 150 far-right activists on Sunday attempted to storm into the the headquarters of System Capital Management financial and industrial group belonging to one of Ukraine’s richest people Rinat Akhmetov.

Local police blocked the attempt and detained one of the activists for smoke bomb throwing.

Some far-right activists have long accused Akhmetov of engineering pro-independence protests in eastern Ukraine, urging the government to probe into his alleged involvement in the conflict in Lugansk and Donetsk regions.

Akhmetov, who owns a number of factories and coal mines across the east, has repeatedly denied the charges, saying he is seeking peace to the eastern regions.
