Fighting breaks out at Turkish parliament

A Turkish parliamentary committee meeting erupted into chaos once again, following last Thursday’s meeting to discuss new legislation, which ended as a fist fight. The ongoing row is over a contentious proposal from the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party to strip legislators of immunity from prosecution. Legislators hurled bottled water at each other across the meeting room, forcing the committee head to halt proceedings. The committee is discussing a proposed constitutional amendment that could pave the way for the trial of several pro-Kurdish legislators on terror-related charges.
