Havagul Abudurim is a Chinese official on the frontlines of the war against terrorism, having been posted to the Uyghur-dominated town of Seriqbuya in Xinjiang three years ago, following a rash of violent attacks in the region. She has maintained a vigilance against extremism ever since. Now she tells her story.
The Chinese government says that terrorist activities that inspired extra security in Xinjiang do not represent any particular ethnic group or religion. People like Havagul Abudurim have a long-term task to safeguard unity in the region.
